Singing bowls have a very long history, but little is truly known of their exact origins. Written history, storytelling and use of these tools date back thousands of years, and are considered to be one of the most ancient artisanal crafts in known history! Various metals, craftsmanship, and knowledge were developed over time based on usage and need. Ranging from medicinal, or sacred rituals, to kitchen use and meditation practices.
Each bowl is hand painted with the Ancient Mantra “Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha” or ༀ་ཏཱ་རེ་ཏུཏྟཱ་རེ་ཏུ་རེ་སྭཱ་ཧཱ། (Sanskrit). The Mantra is one of the most common recited in Tibetan Buddhism, and means “I prostrate to the Liberator, Mother of all the Victorious Ones.” The mantra symbols are painted along the edge of the bowl, with a beautiful engraved symbol of the Green Tara within the bowl.
Green Tara represents the fully enlightened feminine aspect of Buddha or Bodhisattva (one who has attained Enlightenment but forgoes Nirvana to assist others reach that state). She is greatly revered, and most cherished within the Tibetan Pantheon as a female deity of Love, Protection, Compassion and Wisdom.
Known as the ‘Mother of all the Buddhas”, Green Tara sits upon a Lotus with her right leg outstretched, ready to help those in need, and help ‘liberate’ us from fear and Samsara, and guide us as we grow and walk upon our Spiritual path.
